Guitarist and composer David Dorůžka is often lauded as one of the leading figures of the Czech jazz scene, but his musical abilities are far superior to his managerial ones, and perhaps that is why he does not perform under his own name as much as we would expect from a musician of such prowess. His new album Autumn Tales could possibly mark a change of situation – coming almost ten years after the release of his previous record Silently Dawning, despite the scores of projects that he worked on with other artists in the meantime. Although the core of the album, recorded in classic guitar-trio arrangement, comprises Dorůžka’s own compositions, the artist also drew inspiration from Jewish music, the works of Bohuslav Martinů, or popular interwar jazz. Two compositions were added by Dorůžka’s double bassist Jiří Slavík, an excellent soloist and composer in his own right. The numbers from this album will make up their concert here....
