DJ Maphorisa is possibly one of the biggest producer names, you've never heard of. He is the godfather of the house sub genre amapiano ('the pianos' in Zulu). The genre's deep, loose and soulful sound started as a rebellion against the darker more aggressive gqom sound.

Even thought the genre has been an immense success in South Africa for years, it has only lately gotten throught to the mainstream global scene - world stars like Major Lazer, Jason Derulo, Trey Songz and Wizkid have all release DJ Maphorisa produced tracks. The collab with Major Lazer on the African anthem "Particular" topped the charts in 17 countries all over the African continent. DJ Maphorisa er muligvis et af de største producernavne, du aldrig har hørt om. Han er Gudfader for house subgenren amapiano (’the pianos’ på Zulu), hvis dybe, løse og sjælfulde sound opstod som en del af et oprør mod den mørkere og mere aggressive lyd, gqom.

Selvom genren har været en succeshistorie i Sydafrika i en årrække, er den først for alvor slået igennem på den globale mainstream scene de seneste år – især efter verdensstjerner som blandt andre Major Lazer, Jason Derulo, Trey Songz og Wizkid alle har udgivet DJ Maphorisa-producerede tracks. Samarbejdet med Major Lazer på den afrikanske anthem ”Particular” toppede hitlisterne i mere end 17 lande på hele kontinentet. Videoen har i skrivende stund over 85 millioner visninger på YouTube, og fortsatte Maphorisas succeshistorie efter hans eget panafrikanske hit ”Soweto Baby” featuring Wizkid og DJ Buckz fra 2016.

I 2019 satte DJ Maphorisa igen sit præg på musikverdenen med samarbejdet med Kabza De Small, hvor de udgav deres fælles debut amapiano album Scorpion Kings, der tog den Sydafrikanske musikindustri med storm.
Lørdag 1. juli besøger DJ Maphorisa han Danmark for første gang, hvor han fylder Pumpehuset i København med musik og fest hele natten lang.
