Ernie Hammes is a Luxembourg trumpeter who specializes in jazz and also plays classical music. He has played both solo and as first trumpet in the Big Bop Nouveau band, travelling to more than 25 countries while solidly supporting the Luxembourg jazz scene.

Born on 18 August 1968 in Esch-sur-Alzette, Ernest studied at the Conservatories of Esch-sur-Alzette and later at the Manhattan School of Music in New York City and Berklee College of Music in Boston.

Orleans, Karlsbad (Czech Republic) and Cleveland, Ohio. He has also played in Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club in London and at the Montreux Jazz Festival , Den Haag, North Sea Jazz Festival and Toronto festivals. He is the only European to have been a member of the Duke Ellington Orchestra.

In his native Luxembourg, he is the founder director and lead trumpet in the Luxembourg Jazz Orchestra and has been a member of the Musique militaire grand-ducale (the Luxembourg Military Band) where he is lead trumpet and leader of the big band.

As for classical music, he has played with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, the Luxembourg Philharmonic Orchestra and the Latvian Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra .
