For a special way to honor Black History Month, guitarist/composer A. Spencer Barefield leads an extraordinary multigenerational ensemble. They'll perform works by legendary Black composers and musical trailblazers, including recently departed giants Geri Allen and Muhal Richard Abrams, and decades of works by Barefield commissioned by the Kresge Foundation, National Endowment for the Arts, Meet the Composer, MCACA, and others. The concert is held in a magnificent Palmer Woods Tudor filled with Africa, Asia and 20th-21st Century African-America art. Palmer Woods Music in Homes 11th season continues each month with more jazz, classical and world music, featuring world-renown musicians who have strong Detroit connections. This year we feature 5 Kresge Arts Fellows: 2018 Kresge Eminent Artist Wendell Harrison, 2017 Kresge Eminent Artist Patricia Terry-Ross, and Pamela Wise, Gayelynn McKinney and Spencer Barefield. A free concert for children precedes the concerts on Feb 24 and March 24 from 5-6 pm.
