Ioannis Vafeas Quartet at Jazzfest Budapest at Trafó Kortárs Művészetek Háza

The Ioannis Vafeas Quartet started in 2018 as a trio of three jazz musicians who have contributed the most to the establishment of jazz in Cyprus.

Marios Toumbas on piano, Michael Messios on double bass and Ioannis Vafeas on drums. All three have played in various ensembles with local and foreign artists, dating back to their student days at Berklee College of Music. Since then they have been performing, recording, composing and teaching music.

In 2020, the trio expanded into a quartet with the recruitment of the youngest member of the Cypriot jazz scene, the talented Demetris Moraitis, then 18 years old, who brought energy and enthusiasm to the group. The Ioannis Vafeas Quartet started in 2018 as a trio of three jazz musicians who have contributed the most to the establishment of jazz in Cyprus.

CATHARSIS consists of original compositions by Cypriot composers Michael Messios and Glafkos Kontementiotis, as well as a few standards rearranged to suit the band's style and sound.

The Ioannis Vafeas Quartet aims to open new musical horizons for each of its members. The result is a joy for the four musicians and they wish the same for their audience.
