A meeting between a writer and a jazz musician at the AVL Building in Érd.
It is already a tradition at the jazz festival that other branches of art are also included in the program. This year, we will also be kicking off the festival with a literary evening at the headquarters of AVL, our main sponsor. This year's performers have never met on stage before, so we can witness a premiere first-hand.
For the first time this year, the Jazz and Literature Evening will be devoted to a book related to jazz music. The plot of the novel Single by writer and journalist Vass Virág is set in America during the heroic age of jazz, in the 1910s, 20s and 30s. At that time, the Deutsch twins, Rózsi and Janka, defected from their families in Balassagyarmat to New York in the hope of a better life. Within a few years they became popular dancers, and by the time they came of age, they were celebrated as stars in the United States as the Dolly Sisters. They lived a luxurious life, performing for huge sums of money not only in the United States, but also in Parisian and London nightclubs. They embodied the feminine ideals of the great jazz era, the art deco. Their private lives were not very happy. Both were married several times. One of Janka's husbands was Harry Fox (foxtrot), a dancer-comedian, and Rózsi's partner was Jean Schwartz (János Schwartz), a composer-pianist who wrote hits. Their unhappiness led to depression, until one of them committed suicide....
