Jazz Symposium and Concert at Mosaic Templars Cultural Center

This unique event is presented by the critically acclaimed Oxford American literary magazine (oxfordamerican.org) in partnership with the Clinton School of Public Service and the Mosaic Templars Cultural Center (mosaictemplarscenter.com), a Department of Arkansas Heritage museum located on Little Rock's historic West Ninth Street (a jazz mecca in its heyday). Panelists will discuss their own jazz-related experiences as well as the genre's historical context within the African American micro-economies which existed in U.S. cities before the Civil Rights Movement. The hour-long symposium is an outreach event within the Oxford American's 2015-2016 Jazz Series, made possible through a collaborative support grant from the Arkansas Arts Council and a partnership with the University of Central Arkansas's College of Fine Arts and Communication. There is an admission fee ($10 discounted to $5 for student/artist) for the hour-long jazz concert which begins at 7:30 p.m. and features several of central Arkansas's most accomplished musicians: Chris Parker (piano), Nathan Hood (baritone sax), Bill Huntington (upright bass), Yvette Preyer (drums).
