Jimmy Wilkins "new Life Jazz Orchestra" Count Basie Sounds at German American Social Club Of Nevada

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA – The German American Social Club of Nevada and Jazz Conversations, will be hosting Jimmy Wilkins “NEW LIFE JAZZ ORCHESTRA”, a “LIVING HISTORY” BIG BAND, “COUNT BASIE SOUNDS”, on Sunday July 2, 2017 from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Jimmy Wilkins, who just turned 96 years-old last month, conducts this 18-piece Orchestra in a classy and polished fashion.

The entry cost for this event is $15. A $6.00 lunch will be offered.

Jimmy, younger brother of famous composer and arranger Ernie Wilkins, has a long lifetime of renowned performances including his military service shows during World War II. He continued on to play in several famous orchestras including Count Basie’s band and performed in the Apollo Theater. He recorded with bands led by Willis Jackson and Dizzy Gillespie; worked on recordings of The Four Tops, Stevie Wonder, The Temptations and Smokey Robinson; accompanied Nancy Wilson, Billy Eckstein and Lou Rawls. After moving to Las Vegas, Jimmy’s band played in the Showroom at the Riveria. Nowadays he regularly conducts his Big Band Orchestra in Las Vegas. Jimmy still commands a memorable and refined show with the finest Las Vegas Musicians.
