The Jon Faddis Jazz Orchestra of New York & Quintet
March 8-9, 2013, 8pm, Rose Theater
The Jon Faddis Jazz Orchestra of New York brings the music of Faddis’ mentor, Dizzy Gillespie, into focus in two separate settings. No living trumpet player can claim a closer relationship to Gillespie than Faddis, who at 15 years old met Gillespie. Faddis will direct his current big band through new transcriptions from Gillespie’s 40s big band and 50s repertoire and he will also lead a quintet through selected compositions from Gillespie’s small group recordings. The Jon Faddis Jazz Orchestra of New York performers include: Jon Faddis (trumpet, conductor and leader), Lew Soloff, Greg Gisbert, Michael Philip Mossman, Max Darche (trumpets), Mark Vinci, Steve Wilson, Walt Weiskopf, Ralph Lalama, Frank Basile (saxophones), Ted Rosenthal (piano), Todd Coolman (bass), with special guests Ignacio Berroa (drums), NEA Jazz Master Jimmy Heath (tenor saxophone), Pedrito Martinez (congas) and Steve Turre (trombone and conch shells – Friday only). The Quintet includes: Jon Faddis (trumpet, leader), Jimmy Heath (tenor saxophone), Ted Rosenthal (piano), Todd Coolman (bass), Ignacio Berroa (drums).
Ticket prices for Rose Theater are $10, $30, $50, $75, $95 or $120 dependent upon seating section.
All concertgoers are invited to a free pre-concert festival in the Atrium, March 8-9 at 6:30pm featuring live music, album art displays courtesy of the Jazz Record Center, and tastings from Brooklyn Brewery, Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola, and more.

Tickets for Rose Theater and The Allen Room can be purchased through jalc.org or CenterCharge at 212-721-6500, open daily from 10am to 9pm. Tickets can also be purchased at the Jazz at Lincoln Center Box Office, located on Broadway at 60th Street, ground floor. Box Office hours: Monday-Saturday from 10am to 6pm (or 30 minutes past curtain) and Sunday from noon to 6pm (or 30 minutes past curtain).
Note: Hot Seats, $10 seats for each Rose Theater performance (excluding Jazz for Young People® concerts and other performances as specified) and select 9:30pm performances in The Allen Room (excluding Jazz & Popular Song concerts), are available for purchase to the general public on the Wednesday prior to each performance.
