Sixteen compositions by talented pianists and composers have been commissioned for the 17th part of the premiere series. Among the composers are several alumni of Gradia and the Music Campus, who have set out to create international careers. The compositions of the concert have been commissioned from Arttu Ahovaara, Aurora Hentunen, Aaro Laitinen, Antti Lähdesmäki, Panu Korhonen and Tuomas J. Turunen.
Jyväskylä Big Band has become known as a promoter of new Finnish music. JBB has been collaborating with Finnish composers since 1998, and the Ensikäsityksijä concert series is an excellent example of a successful collaboration. JBB performs in Finland and internationally, and many of the band's musicians have become top names in Finland. Conductor Ilkka Mäkitalo has been the orchestra's conductor and artistic director since 1995.
The concert recording and streaming will once again be done by the great Gradia media team.

Jyväskylä Big Bandin Ensikäsityksiä 17 -kantaesityskonsertti kuullaan Siltasalissa syyskauden 2020 avajaiskonserttina sunnuntaina 27.9. klo 18. Kantaesityssarjan seitsemänteentoista osaan on tilattu kuusi sävellystä lahjakkailta pianisteilta ja säveltäjiltä. Säveltäjien joukosta löytyy useita Gradian ja Musiikkikampuksen alumneja, jotka ovat lähteneet luomaan uraa musiikin parissa myös Suomen rajojen ulkopuolelle. Jokainen säveltäjä saapuu myös konserttiin esittämään oman sävellyksensä, joten konsertissa kuullaan yhteensä kuutta pianosolistia.
Konsertin sävellykset on tilattu Arttu Ahovaaralta, Aurora Hentuselta, Aaro Laitiselta, Antti Lähdesmäeltä, Panu Korhoselta ja Tuomas J. Turuselta.
Jyväskylä Big Band on tullut tunnetuksi suomalaisen uuden musiikin edistäjänä. JBB on tehnyt yhteistyötä suomalaisten säveltäjien kanssa vuodesta 1998 alkaen ja Ensikäsityksiä -konserttisarja on erinomainen esimerkki onnistuneesta yhteistyön tuloksesta. JBB konsertoi Suomessa sekä kansainvälisesti ja yhtyeen riveistä on noussut maamme eturivin muusikoita. Kapellimestari Ilkka Mäkitalo on toiminut ansiokkaasti orkesterin kapellimestarina ja taiteellisena johtajana vuodesta 1995 alkaen.
