Mr. Coryell’s innovation and influence in jazz is acknowledged by musicians, audiences and critics. He made jazz history since his arrival on the scene in the 1960’s and continues to worldwide, appearing at major jazz festivals and venues in the US, Europe and Asia. He has recorded over 100 albums and has performed with jazz greats including Miles Davis, Chico Hamilton, Gary Burton. The Heart of Carolina Jazz Orchestra is directed by Gregg Gelb. Gelb began the Orchestra in 1991 when he was Visiting Artist at Central Carolina Community College. Over its many years the organization has presented many of the finest artists in the World of Jazz such as: Ceclie McLorin Salvant, Bud Shank, Dave Valentin, Houston Person, Rene Marie, Stanley Jordan and Sonny Fortune.
