This year the Rockaway Beach Jazz Festival has a diverse lineup and something for everyone, and for all tastes in jazz. From a classic trio led by the awesome alto sax player Lisa Parrott; to the jazz meets reggae and ska crossover of G.R.A.S.S, perfect for an end-of-summer beach show; and finally to the music of Benny Goodman performed by the virtuoso musicians of Flying Home.

7:30pm – GRASS - Gowanus Reggae & Ska Society, featuring Michael Blake on tenor sax and numerous other Brooklyn jazz luminaries. GRASS was founded eight years ago by a group of musical friends dedicated to finding the intersection of Reggae and Jazz. GRASS plumbs the deep tradition of Jamaican Ska, Rocksteady and Reggae for gems that have deep groove and freedom to play. The result is a funky good time and inspired improvisation. Michael Blake, tenor sax; Mark Miller, trombone; Rick Sabo, guitar; Nate Shaw, keys; J. A. Granelli, bass; & Tony Mason on drums.

9:00pm – Flying Home A recent WNYC Battle of the Bands finalist; playing the Music Of Benny Goodman and performing classic swing hits of the 30s, 40s, and 50s, carrying on the Hot style made famous by the Benny Goodman Ensembles. John Mettan, drums; Ben Goldberg, clarinet, Sean Moran, guitar; Michael Bates, bass.
