Cuban born vocalist, composer, recording artist, bandleader, and flute virtuoso, Magela Herrera has established herself as a solo artist. She has fresh, bold, and exciting new concepts to add to the jazz idiom. On her long-awaited 2019 debut album Explicaciones, by Brontosaurus records, Herrera makes it look effortless. She also creates loads of sensual, vibrant, rhythmically diverse fun. She leads an ensemble of top Miami musicians through an eclectic mix of originals, jazz and Latin standards, and traditional favorites from her home country.

Magela is often praised for her unique musical background of Latin jazz, Euro jazz, and Afro-Cuban traditions. In 2010, she was nominated for Best Solo Flute from the New York-based magazine Jazz Corner for the tune “Quien tiene el ritmo (who’s got the rhythm),” on Mezcla’s, Best Album nominated, I’ll See You in Cuba.

She has performed at the Oslo Jazz Festival, Oslo World Music Festival, Copenhagen Jazz Festival, and Lunatos Festival (Toronto). Magela also performed at Music on the Hill (Santa Fe), Miami Downtown Jazz Festival and at various jazz clubs and venues worldwide. She is an exciting up-and-coming musician, with a unique and eclectic sound that displays her command across musical traditions.
