Nobody is more loyal to Marka than Marka. If there's one artist who doesn't lie about the goods, it's Marka. In 1991, when he released his first solo album, the title - JE VOUS DIT TOUT - had to be taken literally. Thirty-three years on, like a contract made with himself, he continues to tell us everything, with an aplomb, a style and a voice that perfectly conceal his doubts and anxieties. So it's about him again on this album, ‘a mirror in which everyone can see me' - as France Gall used to say, evoking, between the lines, the profession of singer in a business that defines the rules. Marka knows the rules, but he changes lanes when he crosses them, convinced for a long time that there is no greater fool than the one who follows the path laid out by the artistic director of a record company whose musical culture begins with ‘I Gotta Feeling' (with all due respect to that Black Eyed Peas hit). If you've lost track of Marka, or if he hasn't called you in a while, the best way to hear from him is to listen to his album. As you discover his eleven new songs (ten to be exact, the eleventh is a fake instrumental - I'll come back to that later), you realise that the man is starting to put away his old papers, rediscovering old memories and sorting out what was good and not so good in his life. ...
