Voici une star du jazz américain : originaire de Kingston, en Jamaïque, le pianiste Monty Alexander a joué avec les plus grands artistes et a été très tôt considéré comme le digne héritier de Nat King Cole ou de Ahmad Jamal. Né le 6 juin 1944, le jour du Débarquement de Normandie, il a conçu comme un clin d’œil à ses quatre-vingts printemps l’album D-Day. En formation trio, avec un batteur et un bassiste, il reprend des standards de l’époque de la Seconde Guerre Mondiale, tel que I’ll never smile again, un grand succès de Franck Sinatra, ou Smile, écrit par Charlie Chaplin pour son film Les temps modernes.
