About
Here is an American jazz star: originally from Kingston, Jamaica, pianist Monty Alexander has played with the greatest artists and was early on regarded as the rightful heir to Nat King Cole and Ahmad Jamal. Born on June 6, 1944—the day of the Normandy D-Day landing—he created the album D-Day as a nod to his eightieth birthday. In a trio formation, with a drummer and bassist, he performs standards from the World War II era, such as “I’ll Never Smile Again,” a major hit for Frank Sinatra, and “Smile,” written by Charlie Chaplin for his film Modern Times. He also delights us with his own compositions, inspired by the history of the conflict but above all filled with spontaneity and optimism. Not to be missed!...
