Noisy Beehive: Johanna Sulkunen (FI) + Szymon Gasiorek (PL) at Huset-kbh

In a collaboration between Musikcaféen and Noisy Beehive, the art collective will present two audio/visual concerts by Finish composer/vocalist Johanna Sulkunen and Polish composer/drummer Szymon Pimpon Gąsiorek. Sulkunen‘s performance will be animated by Finish visual artist Tapani Toivanen.

Johanna Elina Sulkunen is a price-winning Finnish vocalist/composer living in Copenhagen since 2009. She mainly works in a span between modern/contemporary jazz and electronically influenced improvisation-driven music. Since then she has released three albums on her name. ’Belonging’ was nominated with a Danish Music Award in 2016. She has a long experience of being a bandleader for both big and small groups. Her third album is based on artistic research and is going to be published 2018 on the ILK label. She is also a co-leader of the DMA-winning vocal group IKI and has multiple other collaborations ranging from free improvisation, alternative pop to modern jazz with eg. Tomasz Stańko, HilmarJenson, Mike Sheridan and many others. She is currently working on her next album, which will be released in 2021....

Szymon Pimpon Gąsiorek is a Copenhagen-based Polish drummer, composer and improviser. He is also a graduate from the Rhythmic Music Conservatory. He is a leader and co-leader of such bands as Pimpono Ensemble, E/I, The Love And Beauty Seekers, Wood Organization, I Love My Mother, Alfons Slik and Czajka & Puchacz. He is the Co-founder of independent label Love & Beauty Music and international genre-free Idealistic Festival. In his radio show Trans-Bałtyk, he presents Copenhagen music underground at Polish Radio Kapitał. His recent solo works are genre-bending explorations, where ancient drumming meets present pop culture sound, together pointing into future.

Johanna Elina Sulkunen er en Finsk vokalist og komponist, der arbejder fortrinsvis i et spænd mellem moderne jazz og elektronisk-influeret, improvisationsbåren musik. Hun har udgivet tre album i eget navn. I 2016 blev hun nomineret til Danish Music Awards og DJBFA som ’upcoming songwriter’. Siden 2009 har hun arbejdet som co-leader i den eksperimentelle impro-vokalgruppe IKI, som har udgivet fire albums og vundet Danish Music Awards i 2011, foruden at blive nomineret til to i 2018. Med sin seneste udgivels for solo-stemme og elektronik (KOAN/ILK 2018) har Johanna turneret gennem Europa og i Japan. Foruden at producere egne værker har Johanna arbejdet i adskillige konstellationer inden for moderne jazz, improvisation og tværkunstneriske arbejde med fek.s. dansere, digtere og billedkunstnere, samt komponeret musik til film. Hun har samarbejdet med mange forskellige kunstnere indenfor moderne jazz, improvisation og elektronik musik. For tiden arbejder hun med sin næste udgivelse, som skal udgives i 2021.

 Aftenen byder også på en solo-performance fra trommeslager Szymon Pimpon Gąsiorek. Han kommer fra Polen, men har base i Danmark, og er en aktiv del af musikmiljøet i byen. Han optræder løbende i bands som Pimpono Ensemble, E/I, The Love And Beauty Seekers, Wood Organization, I Love My Mother, Alfons Slik og Czajka & Puchacz, og er kendt for at blande jazz, improvisation og strategier fra moderne komposition. Som solist integrerer han gamle trommeteknikker og futuristisk pop-musik i en nærmest tribal performance.
