The tour will feature the new Olli Ahvenlahti New Quintet – The Poet Vol. 2, performing jazz-funk compositions from Ahvenlahti’s Mirror Mirror album, which was released in the spring of 2024. Olli Ahvenlahti has been an influential figure in the Finnish music scene since the 1970s. As a pianist, composer, arranger, conductor, and even a television performer, Ahvenlahti’s diverse body of work includes not only solo albums but also music for films, theater, and TV series.
Poikkeuksellisen mittavan ja monipuolisen uran suomalaisessa musiikissa tehnyt Olli Ahvenlahti täytti tänä vuonna 75 vuotta ja juhlistaa sitä Jazzliiton valtakunnallisella konserttikiertueella 8.–13. lokakuuta. Kiertueella kuullaan uutta Olli Ahvenlahti New Quintet – The Poet Vol. 2 -yhtyettä, joka esittää Ahvenlahden säveltämää jazzfunkia keväällä 2024 ilmestyneeltä Mirror Mirror -albumilta. Kiertue alkaa Joensuusta 8.10., jota seuraavat Kuopio, Lahti, Savonlinna, Raahe ja Tornio.
Pianisti Olli Ahvenlahden uusi Mirror Mirror -albumi syntyi vuonna 1976 ilmestyneen The Poet -albumin hengessä, eikä vähiten elämään jääneen Granma´s Rocking Chair -kappaleen innoittamana. Olli Ahvenlahti odottaa innokkaasti kiertueen konsertteja ja mahdollisuutta tavata jazzdiggareita ympäri Suomen.
– ”On todella hienoa päästä soittamaan uuden albumin musiikkia usealla paikkakunnalla ympäri Suomen. Luvassa on sähköisempää jazzfunkia – aivan kuten kauan sitten The Poet -albumin tyyliin”, kuvailee Ahvenlahti.
Olli Ahvenlahti on vaikuttanut suomalaisessa musiikkimaailmassa 1970-luvulta lähtien. Pianistina, säveltäjänä, sovittajana, kapellimestarina ja jopa tv-esiintyjänäkin ansioituneen Ahvenlahden monipuolinen sävellystuotanto käsittää omien soololevyjen lisäksi musiikkia elokuviin, teatteriin ja tv-sarjoihin.
