A master trumpeter, gifted composer, conductor, and educator, ORBERT DAVIS is co-founder and artistic director of the Chicago Jazz Philharmonic (CJP), a 55 piece jazz-symphonic orchestra, which he co- founded in 2004, now celebrating its 10th anniversary. He also works with at-risk children through his Jazz Alive program, which is the Arts Education outreach arm of the CJP. In 1995 the Chicago Tribune named Orbert one of the Arts People of the Year, and in 2003 Chicago Magazine named him one of seven Chicagoans of the Year. He was commissioned to write the music for the 2010 WTTW special, From DuSable to Obama for which he won an Emmy. Orbert is also host of “The Real Deal with Orbert Davis,” a weekly three hour program airing on 90.9fm WDCB, also streaming live at wdcb.org.
