For his eighth album on Enja Records, La Línea del Sur, Renaud created a new quartet by adding accordionist David Venitucci to his trio, and composed a new repertoire for this group. This critically acclaimed material forms the core of the music that he will bring to the stage of the Newman Center. La Línea del Sur means "the line of the South," referring to an imaginary line in Renaud's mind that runs through the many musics of southern cultures around the world that fascinate him -- Mediterranean, Middle Eastern, Indian, South American, and the south of North America. He added the accordion to his trio because this instrument is a common element among these "Souths," and opened the possibility to offer his interpretation of what each of them could be.
