Soft Machine, one of the most significant avant-garde/jazz-rock bands from the UK, will perform at Louhisali in May! Founded in 1966, the chameleon of jazz-rock and true mover of music released their latest Other Doors album in 2023. On their upcoming Other Doors Scandinavian Tour, the band will perform classic material from the Hopper-Jenkins-Ratledge era, as well as many tracks from their latest album.
Formed by Robert Wyatt, Daevid Allen, Mike Ratledge, Kevin Ayers, and Larry Nowlin, the band was one of the leading acts of the Canterbury scene and often performed alongside groups like The Jimi Hendrix Experience and Syd Barrett's Pink Floyd. The current lineup of Soft Machine features guitarist John Etheridge, who played on albums Softs and Alive and Well in the 70's. Theo Travis plays wind instruments and keyboards, having collaborated with artists such as David Gilmour, Steven Wilson, and Robert Fripp. Fred Thelonious Baker plays bass, and on drums, the band is joined by Asaf Sirkis, who has been praised by Robert Wyatt.

Iso-Britannian merkittävimpien avantgarde/jazz-rock -yhtyeiden joukkoon lukeutuva Soft Machine esiintyy toukokuussa Louhisalissa! Jo vuonna 1966 perustettu jazz-rockin kameleontti ja musiikin todellinen ikiliikkuja julkaisi tuoreimman Other Doors -albuminsa vuonna 2023. Tulevalla Other Doors Skandinavian -kiertueella kuullaan klassikkomateriaalia Hopper-Jenkins-Ratledge-aikakaudelta, kuten myös runsaasti kappaleita yhtyeen viimeisimmältä albumilta.
Robert Wyattin, Daevid Allenin, Mike Ratledgen, Kevin Ayersin sekä Larry Nowlinin perustama yhtye oli yksi Canterbury-skenen pääbändejä ja nähtiin usein samoilla keikoilla mm. The Jimi Hendrix Experiencen sekä Syd Barrethin Pink Floydin kanssa. Bändin tyylisuunta on vuosien saatossa lipunut alkuvaiheen psykedeelisestä rockista kohti progen ja jazz-rockin maailmaa, säilyttäen yhtyeelle leimallisen seikkailun ja avarakatseisuuden ilmeen.
Vuonna 2018 julkaistiin paljon kehuja kerännyt Hidden Details, joka oli yhtyeen ensimmäinen studioalbumi sitten vuoden 1981. Soft Machinen nykyisen kokoonpanon muodostavat kitaristi John Etheridge, joka oli mukana jo 70-luvulla levyillä Softs ja Alive and Well. Puhaltimia ja koskettimia soittaa Theo Travis, joka on tehnyt yhteistyötä mm. David Gilmourin, Steven Wilsonin ja Robert Frippin kanssa. Basson varressa operoi Fred Thelonious Baker ja rummuissa Robert Wyattinkin ylistämä Asaf Sirkis.
