The evening will feature bossa nova music from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil with Rob Fletcher, nylon string guitar and vocals; Nancy Janoson, flute and saxophone; and Jason Shwartz, upright bass.

Bossa nova began on the beaches of Rio in the late 50s and exploded onto the worldwide scene in the early 60s with Stan Getz and Astrud and Joao Gilberto’s recording of Girl From Ipanema. The group will focus on interpreting the songs of bossa nova’s greatest composer, Antonio Carlos Jobim and its greatest artist, singer and guitarist Joao Gilberto. They will also perform sambas, biaos from northern Brazil, choros and jazz sambas. Singer and guitarist Rob Fletcher sings many of the songs in the original Portuguese.
