MOBKE - A Franco-American quartet at the crossroads of worlds

MOBKE is a transatlantic quartet at the crossroads of musical influences and identities. The project was conceived by French double bassist Théo Girard upon his return from a memorable first trip to the United States, where he discovered the quiet but intense energy of the New York scene. Deeply inspired by all eras of American jazz, Girard wanted to bring together musicians with strong personalities, capable of embracing this heritage while asserting a resolutely contemporary voice.
He was joined by three artists from contrasting backgrounds: Chinese-American drummer Lesley Mok, a rising star of the avant-garde scene; French pianist Sophia Domancich, a sound explorer with a thousand projects; and New York saxophonist Nick Lyons, renowned for the finesse of his playing and his sense of improvisation. They form an ensemble with raw and sensitive energy, where Théo Girard's compositions become the starting point for collective writing, nourished by mutual listening and the freedom of each individual.

The name MOBKE reflects the geographical and symbolic roots of the project: MOntreuil and BrooKlyn, like two poles connected by the same desire for dialogue. The letter ‘E’ embodies the ‘ensemble’ - in every sense of the word: a group, a union, an act of shared creation. Music born from encounter,
