Yelawolf is an underground rapper from small-town Alabama who built an audience for himself via MySpace and mixtapes. Born Michael Wayne Atha, he brings a distinctively Southern flavor to his multisyllabic flows and lyrics, drawing inspiration from rural poverty and Southern Gothic imagery. Yelawolf is a storyteller to the core. The richness and brutal honesty he infuses into his words complement his range of vocal style, from beer-swelling rowdiness to a crawling, contemptuous sibilance. He’s just as at home rapping to a beat on an 808 drum machine as he is singing melodies backed by strings and an acoustic guitar. Yelawolf is also a prolific collaborator, partnering with rappers Riff Raff, Caskey, and DJ Muggs as well as country rock star Shooter Jennings....
