George Mihalache er fรธdt i Rumรฆnien og vokset op i en familie af rumรฆnske spillemรฆnd, de sรฅkaldte โlautariโ, hvis musikalske arv gรฅr mange hundrede รฅr tilbage. Traditionen tro lรฆrte Mihalache at spille den rumรฆnske folkemusik pรฅ gehรธr af sin bedstefar. I dag er George Mihalache en virtuose cimbalom-musiker, det stรฅende strengeinstrument, hvis enestรฅende lyd fremmanes ved at slรฅ to pinde mod metalstrengene.
George Mihalaches familie var รฅbne over for inspiration fra vestlig musik, hvilket hรธres i hans musikalske udtryk. Den traditionsrige rumรฆnske folkemusik, med dens lynende hurtige melodier og unikke skalaer, angriber Mihalache fra nyskabende vinkler. Sรฆrligt trรฆder jazzen frem i det dybe og nuancerede lydbillede som han selv kalder for โlautari jazzโ.
Blandingen af balkanmusikken og jazz har Mihalache perfektioneren med sit Calibut Band, der tรฆller musikere med forskellige rรธdder og tonesprog. Med sig pรฅ scenen har Mihalache den tyrkisk/svenske trompetist RuhiยญDeniz Erdogan, Simon Don Eriksen pรฅ harmonika samt svenske Jonatan Ahlbom pรฅ tuba.
I 2015 udgav Calibut Band deres meget roste debut, โTravelersโ. Et album som kastede hele 5 stjerner af sig i GAFFA, der skrev: โDet er en af de bedste balkanplader, undertegnede har hรธrt meget lรฆnge.โ Har man vรฆret til en af bandets talrige koncerter, vil man vide, at de ogsรฅ formรฅr at lรธfte den unikke blanding af lautari og jazz ind i live-sammenhรฆngen, sรฅ det er umuligt at stรฅ stille. Et fรฆngslende bekendtskab, der bygger bro mellem balkan-roots, nordiske toner og varme jazzimprovisationer, og som vi er begejstrede for at kunne bringe til ALICE!
