György Pataj Jazz Quintet

This group has been going for five years now and its music brings to mind the best of hard bop from the 1960s and 70s. They play a very lively brand of straight-ahead jazz. Their leader, pianist GYÖRGY PATAJ is one of the best bop keyboard men in the country. It was in his previous crew that the phenomenal sax-player, Gábor Bolla, still in his early teens, was first noticed. The tenor-sax in today’s band is played by the brilliant SÁNDOR MOLNÁR who produces a beautiful, muscular, dark tone on his horn, plays jazz that sounds like jazz, he is a soulful hard bop player, so true lovers of the genre will absolutely love him. In 2015 he was a roaring success at the interclub festival in London’s 606 Club where he is expected back again next year. SÁNDOR „SOSO” LAKATOS, the incredibly gifted young alto-saxophonist has been playing professionally since the age of 12. Having made his mark on the Hungarian jazz world before the age of 20, he went to Holland to further to studies where he was tutored by the world’s leading jazzmen, like Miguel Zenon, Branford Marsalis, Gerard Presencer and Brad Mehldau, just to name a few. He is back in Hungary now enriching the scene here with his brilliant, incredibly intelligent and inventive playing. The bassist PETER OLÁH, a player equally outstanding as an accompanist and a soloist is, not surprisingly, one of the most sought after artist on his instrument in this country.. Having won the talent-seeking contest organized by the Hungarian Radio in 2002, drummer ANDRÁS PECEK LAKATOS quickly established himself in the top echelons of the Hungarian jazz scene....
