On Sunday evening, June 15, global percussionist Ian Dogole and his genre-defying band of world-class collaborators will return to the Throckmorton stage to perform music that traverses an ever-changing aural landscape – from original compositions inspired by the ancient Silk Road, the gamelans of Indonesia and the trance-inducing rhythms of the Sahara Desert and West Africa … to new interpretations of compositions by visionary musicians/composers Alice Coltrane, Yusef Lateef, Thelonious Monk, Ralph Towner and Ed Blackwell … to improvisational treks into other-worldly realms.
Ian Dogole will perform on a dazzling array of indigenous percussion instruments, including the udu (Nigerian clay pot), cajon (Afro-Peruvian box drum), dumbek (pan-Arabic goblet drum), kalimba (East African thumb piano), talking drum (West African hourglass drum) and hang (Swiss steel pan-derived instrument)....
