Jazz at Packard Place is a beautiful and intense experience - an overwhelming display of improvisational jazz that quite simply blows you away. Jazz at Packard Place is a throwback to the intimate Jazz cafe feel of the 50's and 60's with hot jazz, mood lighting, and a nice bottle of wine.

Saxophonist Harvey Cummings is an alto man with hypnotic riffs that channel the melodies of Charlie 'Bird' Parker. Cummings is a mixed bag of mesmerizing melodies from loving ballads like In a Sentimental Mood to his skillful update of the neo-classic Maiden Voyage by Herbie Hancock. This jazz set is not complete without dazzling solos from his all-star associates like the phenomenal Tim Scott, Jr. on drums, the blistering El Shafer on trumpet and the ever-so-smooth Tim Singh on the upright bass. Other musicians and special guests tend to sit-in as the night progresses. The evening takes on an artful playfulness when the saxophonist plays keys and a bassist takes hold of the sax. When Calvin Edwards (The Big Bopper) takes the stage he pours his heart and soul into every performance. The jazz guitarist, singer, and songwriter puts on a show that you can feel and will not soon forget. He pays homage to the giants before him with tunes from guitar icons Wes Montgomery, Grant Green, and George Benson.

Edwards has deep roots in North Carolina. He was born in Kings Mountain and at 17 moved to Los Angeles and began touring with the famous Gospel group the Five Blind Boys of Alabama. Now, Edwards is an internationally acclaimed artist having played in Japan, China and performed for President Bill Clinton at the G8 Summit in Okinawa.
