Sables, who found herself immersed in the teen pop world as a young recording artist for LaFace/Arista records in Atlanta at the age of 17, has recorded with, and for, many of the era’s pop/R&B heavyweights such as Pink, Babyface, Mandy Moore and Boyz II Men. Now, she incorporates her pop influences into her jazz performances and is recognized as one of the region’s most respected interpreters of song with sold-out appearances throughout the East Coast.
Influenced by Sable to go beyond her jazz standard repertoire, which can be heard at Uptown’s “The Jazz Cocktail Hour” where she is the host, Michaels says, “We are two different generations, with two very different styles and sounds to our voices. Sables’ voice is pitch perfect; sweet and clear with delicate dynamics and quite intoxicating. Whereas my voice has a soulful, gutsy style with a rich, lower range that is quite a contrast from Sables. Both can tell a story in song so differently, and when we sing together it's oh so fun!”
Performing alongside Sable and Michaels will be The Terry Klinefelter Quintet, featuring WCU’s Dr. Terry Klinefelter on piano, Jazz Guitarist, Arranger, and Producer E. Shawn Qaissaunee (Stevie Wonder, Broadway’s Greg Riley) and Philadelphia’s most sought-after drummer Harry “Butch” Reed.
