Musician Jukka Haavisto became known as a vibraphonist specializing in swing jazz. He also mastered the accordion. He made his first public appearance as a musician in 1940, performing two Finnish songs on the harmonica in a broadcast by Yleisradio. In the early years of his career, Haavisto played the accordion and trumpet until he switched to the vibraphone and ended up playing in various bands. Some of the most well-known ones were the Happy Swing Band, Jukka Haavisto Band, and Haavisto Swingers.
"The rhythm of swing felt immediately like my own, and it ignited an interest that has not faded," Haavisto said in an interview with HS for his 90th birthday in the summer of 2020. In the winter of the same year, he made his last public appearance. In 2000, he received the Elvis Award from composers and lyricists for his contributions to the promotion of light music. In 2007, he was awarded the title of Music Counsellor. The Finnish Jazz Federation also honored him....
