Matt Jenson grew up in rural New Hampshire and somehow fell in love with music from all over the Caribbean, especially from the islands of Cuba and Jamaica. Stranger things have happened! Since those early years he’s immersed himself in the cultures and musical forms of those islands and has spent years experimenting with tastefully merging Reggae and Afro-Cuban styles with jazz and blues. He now lives in Boston, teaches in the piano department at Berklee College of Music and runs a very popular class dedicated to the life and music of Bob Marley.

Matt Jenson’s Reggae Jazz

Matt Jenson grew up in rural New Hampshire and somehow fell in love with music from all over the Caribbean, especially from the islands of Cuba and Jamaica. Stranger things have happened! Since those early years he’s immersed himself in the cultures and musical forms of those islands and has spent years experimenting with tastefully merging Reggae and Afro-Cuban styles with jazz and blues. He now lives in Boston, teaches in the piano department at Berklee College of Music and runs a very popular class dedicated to the life and music of Bob Marley.

Matt Jenson’s Reggae Jazz is a quartet of musicians who bring a deeply rooted understanding of Caribbean music and Reggae to creative re-workings of Bob Marley compositions (and other covers) and inject a similar sensibility to a creative array of original compositions. This quartet is all about sultry and sensual Reggae and Caribbean GROOVES with great melodies, great soloing, beautiful introductions, breakdown sections and complimenting vocals.

On drumset is Sean Skeete, from Trinidad & Tobago, West Indies. He’s performed and recorded on many top level projects and is now the assistant chair of the ensemble department at Berklee. Winston Maccow is an amazing bassist from the Island of Saint Marten, West Indies and also has a musical resume too long to mention here. He’s now teaching in the ensemble department at Berklee. The special guest for this show is the indomitable spirit of Stan Strickland. He will be complimenting the group with his tenor sax, flute and percussion playing as well as his inspired vocalizations.

One thing for sure; this music will transport your mind, body and soul to another world where the smile on your face will match the smile on your swaying body!
