Monday Jazz: Sounds So Good at Afterthought Bistro and Bar

For many years a diverse and multigenerational audience has enjoyed Monday Jazz at The Afterthought, where other musicians are often invited to sit in with featured performers. Currently there is a $5 cover charge and the music lasts from 8:30 p.m. until approximately 11:30 p.m. The style/sub-genre of jazz varies from week to week. Featured performers for 28 September 2015 are Curtis "JJ" Adams (keys), Tamisha "Sonnie" Cheatham (vocals), Tim Woods (sax), Ivan Yarbrough (electric bass), and Gavin Hawkins (drums).

The $5 cover charge is sometimes waived for those dining in the restaurant, but a full menu (shown at afterthoughtbistroandbar.com) is also available in the adults-only club during normal restaurant hours. The Arkansas Jazz Heritage Foundation (which sponsors and maintains the Arkansas Jazz Hall of Fame) holds each of its board meetings (as well as an occasional meet-and-greet) before/during Monday Jazz at The Afterthought because it is the only Little Rock venue which has presented live jazz continuously - at least once a week - since the 1970s. (That distinction earned the iconic club a place on the map in the first print edition of the Encyclopedia of Arkansas Music, published in September 2013 by the Central Arkansas Library System's Butler Center for Arkansas Studies.) Located in the historic Hillcrest neighborhood and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, The Afterthought and its adjoining restaurant occupy a building which served as the town hall for Pulaski Heights before its 1916 annexation by Little Rock.
