It is not Chicago or New Orleans but Rome the first summer stop of Pepper and the Jellies, one of the most celebrated early jazz bands by national and international critics. The group, an original and overwhelming sound that conquers and draws the listener, even the less experienced.
Brilliantly reviewed in Italy and abroad, the band boasts a particular and recognizable sound thanks to the versatility of the musicians and the voice of the singer and washboard player Ilenia Appicciafuoco, repeatedly approached by the jazz empress Bessie Smith, is defined as one of the best performers of traditional jazz and early blues.
THE ORIGIN
Born from the meeting between Ilenia Appicciafuoco and Andrea Galiffa, the band integrates with the guitarist Marco Galiffa and the double bass player Emiliano Macrini. It is proposed, with an unusual formation and a sound as original and proper as possible, to drag the audience into traditional swing, blues and jazz sounds. The ability of each element to involve the listener always makes their concerts ideal for fans, but also for those who are immersed in this fascinating universe for the first time. Recently born, he has 2 international tours and several festivals in Italy, Belgium, Switzerland, France, Ireland, England (Birmingham International Jazz Festival, Open Jazz Festival KotCertino, Pozzuoli Jazz Festival …).
DISCROGRAPHY
after the success of the cd THE VIPER SESSION, entered the hearts and playlists of lindy hop dancers and hot jazz fans from all over Europe, in 2019, Pepper and The Jellies present the new album THE STUFF IS HERE. A tribute to the music of the 30s, blues and hot jazz, plus two unreleased songs that mark a turning point and a change of perspective for the band. Traditional jazz yes, but reinterpreted according to a personal vision, always far from any imitation, by musicians who do not forget either to live in the present or their origins.
In the disc, Pepper and The Jellies make use of the collaboration of the great trombonist, multi-instrumentalist and composer Mauro Ottolini, connoisseur of early jazz, but at the same time tireless experimenter.
The one proposed is a journey that starts from traditional jazz, blues and swing with a particular reference to erotic songs, typical of the 20s and 30s, and reaches more popular hits to the general public.
