Arlington Porchfest goes indoors on March 25 with a concert as eclectic as the town-wide community festival itself. Instrumental groove quintet Le Prestige starts the music, followed by Arlingtons own indie pop duo FBGM. Sister/cousin trio Rosemere Road headlines the concert, singing updated folk. Arlington Center for the Arts theater opens its doors for the event at 7, and the music starts at 7:30.
Sisters Carson and Emmery Brakke and their cousin Kara McKee grew up in the same neighborhood in Rhode Island, went off to piano and vocal lessons with the same teachers, and sang in the same high school choirs. When the trio were all living in Boston in 2016 after years apart, they brought their three-part harmony back together, playing as Rosemere Road. The trio brings an edgy depth to their music even as they sing of traditional folk themes: love, hard times, and chasing dreams. FBGM got its start at Arlingtons first Porchfest last year.. Matt Jatkola and D. Orxata , who had been playing together in the Boston synth pop band The Bynars, combined their vocal and guitar talents on a neighbors porch last June to play their own songs and some new spins of covers. Since then theyve enjoyed playing around Boston, Somerville and Arlington. Before the concert, ACA is hosting a reception to celebrate the second coming of Arlington Porchfest, Saturday, June 3, 2017. Registrants for Porchfest 2017 will be guests of honor and qualify for free tickets to the concert (details provided after registering at http://arlingtonporchfest.org).
Proceeds from the concert will be donated to the ACA Future Fund. For the past 27 years, ACA has provided vibrant arts programming for thousands of kids, teens, adults, seniors, artists, and performers. In 2017 ACA will lose its long-time home when the town reclaims the Gibbs Building for middle school classes. ACA has launched the Future Fund Capital Campaign to raise $1 million to create and sustain its new home at the Central School, where it will continue its classes, camps, community art exhibitions, and studio art spaces.
