Mark Pucci began his career in 1972 in Memphis, TN, as music editor for a monthly entertainment magazine. In addition to writing features, album and live reviews, he supervised a freelance staff of six writers from around the South. Some of the artists he interviewed during this time included David Bowie (one of the first interviews granted during his American “Ziggie Stardust Tour”), Lou Reed, ZZ Top, The Allman Brothers Band, The New York Dolls, Mott The Hoople, Ted Nugent, Robin Trower and Big Star. He also began to freelance stories to several national magazines, including Rolling Stone, Phonograph Record Magazine and Zoo World, and produced radio commercials for Mid-South Concerts.

In July 1974, he joined Capricorn Records in Macon, Georgia, first as a tour publicist and later as national publicity director. Some of the artists he worked with included The Allman Brothers Band, The Marshall Tucker Band, Sea Level, Wet Willie, Delbert McClinton, Gregg Allman, Dickey Betts, Elvin Bishop, Bonnie Bramlett, Percy Sledge, Dixie Dregs and Martin Mull.

After Capricorn Records ceased operations in late 1979, he moved to Atlanta and established his first independent publicity venture, Mark Pucci Associates. His client list during the 12 years of that company's operation included Joe Ely, Jimmie Dale Gilmore, Dave Alvin, Joe Louis Walker, Earl King, Snooks Eaglin, Anson Funderburgh & the Rockets, Ronnie Earl, Rod Piazza & the Mighty Flyers, Robert Ward, Hubert Sumlin, Elvin Bishop, Tinsley Ellis, Charlie Musselwhite, Delbert McClinton, Kenny Neal, Lazy Lester, Roy Buchanan, Little Charlie & the Nitecats, The Paladins, Michelle Shocked, Guadalcanal Diary, Love Tractor, Webb Wilder, Boozoo Chavis, Charlie Feathers, Johnny Johnson, Steve Morse, Atlanta Rhythm Section, Billy Joe Royal, Bill Anderson, Alicia Bridges, Bertie Higgins and producer Eddie Offord. In addition, his company handled publicity for a number of special projects, including The Class of '55 album, which reunited Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison and Carl Perkins, Willie Nelson's 1983 Atlanta Picnic, the 1991 South By Southwest Music Conference, actor/comedian Jim Varney and the world premiere of Woody Allen's film, The Purple Rose of Cairo.

From 1991 to late 1995, he returned to Capricorn Records, which was then based in Nashville, as vice president of publicity. As such, he directed the publicity campaigns for such artists as 311, Cake, Hank Williams, Jr., Widespread Panic, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Kenny Chesney, Billy Burnette and Ian Moore. He also was project coordinator for a number of box set reissues Capricorn released of classic tracks from the vaults of such landmark labels as Scepter Records, Fire/Fury Records, Jewel/Paula Records and Cobra Records, as well as sets on Hank Williams, Jr. and Elmore James. Mark later went on to become vice president and general manager of the label.

At the start of 1996, he returned to Atlanta and established Mark Pucci Media.
