Duke Ellington was a great American composer, pianist and leader of his jazz orchestra. Ellington started working with classical themes in the 1940s and, after hearing Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite, enlisted Billy Strayhorn to create a new arrangement; a composition that fuses Tchaikovsky’s original themes with the unique textures and styles of a jazz orchestra. Our Jazz Nutcracker is further enhanced with additional arrangements by Essentially Ellington transcriber, David Berger.
