The quartet, led by drummer-composer Okko Saastamoinen, was began their ascent in 2016 when they became the the Finnish representative in Young Nordic Jazz Comets and received the We Jazz Rising Star award. Their Land E. debut, released the following year, received an excellent reception from critics and the jazz audience, and set big expectations for the band in the future. In January 2019 We Jazz Records released the band's long-awaited Syrtti album, which received a five star review from Helsingin Sanomat.
In his compositions Okko Saastamoinen leaves a lot of room for improvisation, where the members of the band get to shine when they take the music to new directions. The influences that the band members bring to Okko’s compositions can be anything from the history of Western music. The red thread in the band's playing is trust, use of space and improvisation. Rumpali-säveltäjä Okko Saastamoisen luotsaama kvartetti ampaisi nousukiitoon vuonna 2016 Suomen Young Nordic Jazz Comets -edustajuuden sekä We Jazz Rising Star -palkinnon siivittämänä. Seuraavana vuonna julkaistu Land E. -debyytti sai erinomaisen vastaanoton kriitikoilta ja jazzyleisöltä sekä antoi luvan odottaa yhtyeeltä suuria jatkossa. Lupaukset lunastettiin tammikuussa 2019, kun We Jazz Records julkaisi yhtyeen odotetun Syrtti-albumin, jonka esimerkiksi Helsingin Sanomat määritteli viiden tähden arvoiseksi.
Sävellyksissään Okko Saastamoinen jättää paljon tilaa improvisoinnille, jossa yhtyeen jäsenet pääsevät loistamaan viedessään musiikkia uusille urille, kuitenkin käsiteltävää sävellystä palvellen. Vaikutteet, joita yhtyeen jäsenet tuovat mukanaan Okon sävellyksiin, voivat olla mitä tahansa länsimaisen musiikin historiasta. Punaisena lankana toimii luottamus, tilan käyttö ja improvisointi. OK:KOn keikkoja on kuvailtu intensiivisiksi kokemuksiksi, jotka herättävät kuulijassa mielikuvia ja syvää läsnäoloa.
