A band that is as mind-blowing in the studio as they are onstage,The Slip plays music that points to the future, synthesizing older influences like The Beatles, Bach, and Led Zeppelin with the likes of Built to Spill, Iron & Wine and Wilco.
Emerging from the Northeast’s vibrant jam-band scene in the ‘90s, their heavy jazz influence at the time (think Miles Davis' Bitches Brew) was a welcome respite from the sea of Phish copycats. In the late ’90s and early 2000s, the trio’s sound evolved from project to project, moving from its jazz-rock foundation to a more expansive jam-oriented format that ultimately veered toward straight up King Crimson-esue art rock. They often teamed with like-minded experimenters such as Schleigho and Lettuce. One memorable night in Worcester the band opened for funk great Maceo Parker at the Palladium and then trucked up Main Street to do a late-night headlining set at the now-defunct jam-hub Tammany Club. Their Western Mass shows are legendary as well, with memorable shows in Northampton at Pearl Street and the Iron Horse. ...
