ABOUT WEST END SWING NONET
Jazz Music Institute alumni, Samuel Irwin-Hogarth and his ensemble the 'West End Swing Nonet' presents a selection of swing music from the 1930s and 1940s.
Sam has been researching deep in the dark recesses of the 30s and 40s, attempting to understand the roots of the jazz idiom. Somewhere along the way he developed a taste for a sound seldom played by jazz musicians today. This new ensemble seeks to create a small group sound grounded in the rhythm feel of the swing era. With arrangements and rearrangements of the music of jazz luminaries such as Benny Carter, Count Basie, Bennie Moten, Lionel Hampton, Mary Lou Williams and John Kirby... Well, hot dog! It's sure to delight....
