Developed the original rallying slogans for the American Trauma Society and an effective advertising campaign, which helped establish trauma centers throughout the USA.
Brought in dozens of sponsors and media sponsors for a First Night organization. Set records for on and off-season publicity. Delivered more press than any similar program in the state and most in the nation, capturing the Washington, DC and Baltimore electronic and print media. as well as local press.
Turned an Annapolis musician’s career into a multi-faceted business featuring jazz master classes, a jazz workshop series and an acclaimed jazz performance ensemble. Obtain significant regional and national press in the US and Canada. Developed multiple web sites and strong Internet and cable TV presence. Responsible for branding, graphics, advertising and public relations for all aspects of business.
Garnered record magazine, newspaper, radio and television coverage for a 25-year old performing ensemble, Footworks. Filled auditoriums such as Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts and Strathmore Hall. Raised funds and in-kind services and planned huge, successful events. Obtained public service announcements in surrounding cities.
Created multi-city media campaigns for a Virginia music group, QuinTango. Garnered record amount of television, radio, magazine and newspaper press for nine year-old ensemble in many US regions including, but not limited to: Northern Virginia, Washington, DC, Baltimore, Charleston, South Florida, Mississippi, Oklahoma.
For Annapolis restaurant, obtained stacks of regional publicity for art openings and feature coverage during exhibits runs. Assisted in exhibition planning. Broke attendance records with special events. Extended news coverage to Baltimore and Washington, DC.
In a town already crowded with art galleries and museums, brought two new galleries to the public eye. In inaugural year, delivered strong sales and high foot traffic while capturing the lion’s share of the town’s art coverage from the regional press.
Planned and conducted promotion of Golden Anniversary of Fairfax Symphony Orchestra. Worked with executive director to significantly elevate the status of the orchestra in Washington, DC and greater Northern Virginia. Revamped all press materials, issued effective (feature story producing) press releases and established many new media contacts for the symphony. Laid groundwork for incoming staff to follow.
Co-founded Maryland Summer Jazz Camp and Festival in Rockville. Serve as administrator. Promote, fundraise, book teaching artists and performers, assist with curriculum and all planning and scheduling, budgeting and promotion. Obtain national coverage in print and electronic media. Obtained national publicity for the Second Annual Monty Alexander Jazz Festival in Easton, Maryland.
Significantly increased name recognition and helped launch many musicians and groups such as Potomac Jazz Project, Jeff Antoniuk & the Jazz Update Afro Bop Alliance, Tom Lagana, Sandy Asirvatham and Veronneau, . Handled national publicity in support of CD release campaigns providing collateral material for radio stations and press materials. Obtained coverage in trade press and general media.
Paula Phillips is the former director of Anne Arundel County arts programs. She has been a television and radio producer and interviewer. In addition to running a public relations agency, she enjoys a fine reputation as a free-lance writer.
