8. Festival Jazzdor Strasbourg-Berlin 2014 at Kesselhaus In Der Kulturbrauerei

Created in 2007 by the Jazzdor Strasbourg team, the festival Jazzdor Strasbourg-Berlin has been presenting some of the best French jazz for 8 years, as well as Franco-German and other European projects.
Jazzdor Strasbourg-Berlin has found its place in Berlin’s rich cultural schedule, and is now expected with excitement at the beginning of each June. Rare projects, new creations and German premieres will take place over the 4 nights, covering the current French jazz panorama.

This 8th edition will open with the duo of the accordionist Vincent Peirani and saxophonist Émile Parisien, two of the most renowned young French musicians of the moment, and winners of the Prix Django Reinhardt for best French musician in 2012 and 2013 respectively. Clarinettist Louis Sclavis will be back with two young musicians who the festival came across in the groupe ‘Q’, for a project that is 100% improvised, and that shouldn’t be lacking in energy! Singer Benat Achiary and cornemuse player Erwan Keravec will be presenting their unusual duo, a kind of imaginary “world music“, full of blues and melodies from Brittany.

One of the key moments of this edition will of course be the first German concert under Olivier Benoît’s directorship of the Orchestre National de Jazz. The orchestra is made up of 11 musicians, and will present the ‘Europa Paris’ programme which is the first of a series of works that intends on putting to music the impressions left by great European cities.

We will be able to hear many of the musicians of the orchestra at the heart of other line-ups. The rhythms of Bruno Chevillon and Eric Echampard will propel the cinematographic music of the group ‘Caravaggio’, whilst the young violinist Théo Ceccaldi will lead his own string trio. We will also find this musician in pianist Hans Lüdemann’s Franco-German line-up, as well as the exciting saxophonist Alexandra Grimal.

Finally, we look forward to one of the first European performances of a brand new trio, featuring pianist and Fender Rhodes specialist Jozef Dumoulin, accompanied by New York saxophonist Ellery Eskelin and drummer Dan Weiss.
