Derek Shirley was born in Ottawa, Canada and is based in Berlin. Playing double bass, electric bass, cello, drums and electronics, he is active in the improvised/experimental music scene, focusing on low frequency minimalism in both improvised and composed realms. Steve Heather is an Australian freelance musician (drums, percussion, electronics), composer, performance and installation maker based in Berlin. He is interested in the repetitive acoustic territories of everyday life informing his and othersā sonic agency. His research revolves around the physicality of sonic boundaries and how it informs compositional methodologies, materials and structures along with the listenersā corporal reading thereof. His music is a collision of captivating simplicity and fleeting subtle complexity. His current music projects/bands vary from avant-garde, free jazz to noise, drone rock, progressive fitness disco and include Stiff Leather, The Still, Booklet, Y, and The Splitter Orchestra.
