Fifty years after Eric Dolphy's death, a festival dedicated to his compositional work will take place in Berlin. In concert, an assortment of compositions from Dolphy’s oeuvre will be performed as world premiere. Before the big evening of concert there will be a public rehearsal, enabling for instance students to experience the modus operandi of the artists. Additionally there will be a panel discussion on the first evening with the musicians Karl Berger and Han Bennink as well as the musicologist and sociologist Dr Christian Broecking. Berger and Bennink will speak about their last experiences of working together with Dolphy. Furthermore, the socio-political background of Afro-American music and the debate on racism during the 1960ies will be addressed.
