Jazzkeller 69 e.V. is an association of jazz fans without its own venue. With our concerts we make guest appearances at various venues. With regular concerts we want to promote Berlin musicians and present new things as well as dare experiments. We want to offer the musicians a paid podium for modern and avant-garde jazz and give the audience an inexpensive opportunity to follow developments as well as to experience different sides of the musical work of musicians. Jazzkeller 69 organizes about 80 events per year with public funding. Jazz fans have been associated with the former Kreiskulturhaus Treptow since 1969, at first only as listeners and later as volunteer organizers of a jazz series reflecting the development of the Berlin jazz scene

Jazz fans have been associated with the former Kreiskulturhaus Treptow since 1969, at first only as listeners and later as volunteer organizers of a jazz series reflecting the development of the Berlin jazz scene. The new political situation led to the founding of the Jazzkeller 69 association in 1992. As active jazz fans, we have accompanied the development of Berlin's jazz scene through all of the political upheavals over the past 50 years and have always been the culmination point, as it were, for important artistic impulses and stylistic movements emanating from Berlin. The musical focus of the events is to explore tensions between contemporary jazz and other current musical forms, such as free improvised music, experimental rock, contemporary composition, modern folklore and world music. Our aim is to give experimental band projects a podium with guaranteed fees, so that jazz from Berlin can continue to live up to its reputation of being particularly unconventional and creative. Our programming makes it clear that artistic ambition by no means excludes entertainment in the best sense of the word and quirky musical humor, and that a desire for artistic experimentation is not at odds with the cultivation of jazz traditions.
