The Pennsylvania Jazz Collective announces the second annual Christmas City Summer Jazz Festival—free and open to the public—and visiting guest artist Tom Schuman of Spyro Gyra.

The Christmas City Summer Jazz Festival will be held on Saturday July 22 from 12:30 to 10 pm. The festival celebrates regional jazz artists of international acclaim with 12 diverse jazz bands.

For decades Pennsylvania Jazz Collective (PAJAZZ) artists have forged ties with jazz musicians everywhere. These relationships are the foundation of the Pennsylvania Jazz Collective’s contribution to the Lehigh Valley. The mission “formula” is to feature these special guests in collaboration with Lehigh Valley regional jazz artists PAJAZZ concerts. This year’s festival headliner guest is pianist / keyboardist Tom Schuman of Spyro Gyra. A native of Buffalo, Tom and Lehigh Valley natives have had relationships since early in their careers and as far back as 1978. It has been too long since an opportunity presented itself. (Tom’s relocation to Las Vegas made it difficult to arrange.) The stars finally aligned. Spyro Gyra opens at the Blue Note in NYC on July 25 allowing for Tom’s appearance. Anchoring the rhythm section on Tom’s set will be bassist Tony Marino and drummer Alex Ritz. Additional LV artists will appear throughout the set. Other acts include: NEEMA, the Frank DiBussolo Trio, Pete Fluck & Craig Thatcher, the Eric Mintel Quartet, Nancy & Spencer Reed, the PAJAZZ Idol youth group winners, the Dave Roth Trio, ESQ and the PAJAZZ Big Band features an All-Star lineup.

Food and beverages will be available for purchase. Beer will be available for purchase from Lost Tavern Brewing, and wine from Hackett Winery.

The festival is free. Donations are accepted. Suggested donation is $10.00.

Rain or shine. The Ice Rink is an all-weather facility and totally under cover.

The Pennsylvania Jazz Collective (PAJAZZ) is a non-profit educational organization dedicated to promoting Jazz, America’s indigenous art form, through concerts, community initiatives, educational outreach programs, and by showcasing jazz artists in venues throughout the area. The organization’s goal is to educate and raise the community’s awareness of jazz as an art form.
