Specially commissioned by EMJAZZ "Side by Side" brings the UK’s leading jazz musicians to the East Midlands to rehearse, and play with our best local bands. Originally from Nottingham Julian Siegel is now getting international attention with his own quartet and Partisans. 'New Bag' ("Woody" and Martyn from Nottingham, Hugh from Leicester and Matt from Derby) are part of a new generation of jazz musicians living in the East Midlands. Inspired by the 'university of the band stand' ideal of Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers this quintet features arrangements and originals by all its members.
