Plan Kruutntoone is a versatile ensemble that performs sometimes as a trio, sometimes as an orchestra. Since their formation in 1991, the group has toured throughout Europe and released seven stylistically diverse albums that nonetheless share a common musical "language."
Now, Plan Kruutntoone is releasing their eighth (and ninth!) album titled "Niet alles wat afwijkt is weerloos / not everything that deviates is defenseless”. For this release, they have collaborated with the singers and wind players of Ahura Mazda 3000, three additional drummers, and Reinier van Houdt on keyboard instruments.
The two LPs move musically between the gospel style of The Bad Seeds, the free jazz of Ornette Coleman, and the strict transparency of Galina Ustvolskaya – all in Plan Kruutntoone's distinctive language.
At the symbolic age of 33 (the age at which Jesus died), Plan Kruutntoone decided to work with Ahura Mazda 3000 on an (anti-)gospel album. The aim is to break the generational transmission of fear while "making noise" – not in the sense of size or quantity, but for the small and valuable.
The musicians play both collaboratively composed pieces and works by Hansko Visser, who as a composer and lyricist admires unconventional and passionate artists such as Galina Ustvolskaya, Adrian Borland, Cornelius Cardew, and his namesake Hanns Eisler
