Tizia Zimmermann (born 1985) is a Swiss accordionist and improvisational musician. She completed her studies at the Bern University of the Arts (HKB), where she graduated with honors with a bachelor’s degree in 2018 and a master’s degree in performance in 2020. Tizia Zimmermann’s music ranges from contemporary classical to free improvisation and experimental music.
She is a member of various formations—including ensembles focusing on new music and improvisation—and has found her own expressive language through sound experiments and noise aesthetics. In 2024/25, she was one of the musicians to receive a “Carte Blanche” for independent creative projects—an award from the Swiss jazz and improvisation scene.
Tizia Zimmermann sees her instrument not only as a sound generator, but also as an open field for experimentation: from subtle whispers to densely layered, almost orchestral soundscapes, she explores the sonic boundaries of the accordion and creates spaces between classical music, noise, and free improvisation.
