Reimagining the spirit of Louis Armstrong’s genre-defining 1920s Hot Five band, this all-star line-up features the UK’s best jazz talent including clarinettist - and our Artist in Residence - Giacomo Smith. He appears with: Joe Webb on piano, trumpeter Laura Jurd, Daniel Higham on trombone, Luke McCarthy on drums and Honey Boulton on banjo. Together with Giacomo, they perform pre-swing repertoire with a twist, from Armstrong, WC Handy, Jelly Roll Morton, Duke Ellington, and Fletcher Henderson. Blurring blues, ragtime, swing, and Latin, they bring a contemporary flair to jazz from this pioneering time and launch our jazz season in style.
