After their succesfull interview-concert The Dubtapes, Jens Maurits Orchestra is digging deeper down the roots of music in triggers & thresholds: a 10-headed art-installation-concert questioning the man-ape evolving, the neurons firing and the consciousness contemplating for music to be possible.

Leading thinkers of this collective are Jens Bouttery, drummer/composer and Daan Milius, videomaker. In the previous award-winning project The Dubtapes – interviews in concert, they researched the musicality of their language. This time Jens and Daan went talking to different scientists about the possible processes – the triggers & thresholds that thrusted life into music.
The compositions of Jens Bouttery translate processes of evolution, consciousness and the mechanics of our brain into music. Like chunks of DNA, melodies cling onto each other and gain in complexity at each step. As this game of evolution unravels itself, the musicians transform into a roost of quarreling birds, a group of grooming apes and a bunch of pulsing neurons in the auditory cortex.
Lucas Kramer’s installation is a visual translation of a mechanism that slowly constructs a memory and wich it rewrites the present. Microphones as sense organs, magnetic tapes as a nerve system, tape organ as consciousness and speakers as motoric output.
Storyteller Dougie Eynon cites the adventures of Jean-Godefroy. An epic based upon the findings gathered during the research process.
