The multi-award-winning Nagy Emma Quintet represents the new generation of modern, contemporary jazz. Although the five musicians differ from each other in many ways, it was clear from the outset that they work really well together as a unit. Their experimental spirit plays a major role in shaping their sound: heavy drum grooves, free improvisations, contemporary compositions based on song forms, and other unique solutions are all prominent elements of their music. This diversity is not an end in itself, but serves to allow the band to explore the layers of chamber music more deeply on stage. Contrasts and dissonances, improvisation and variety, joy and melancholy, contemporary sensibility and grotesque, raw expression are all present in their style, which thus carries a kind of dreamlike charm.
